A Level Chemistry Workshop News

Posted on: 22/02/2018

The chemistry workshop from the Royal Society of Chemistry was amazing. As A-level students, we gained an insight into the detailed processes of spectroscopy, and how the ranged from infrared to mass spec. The university students delivered a clear and informative presentation, giving us an opportunity to demonstrate the techniques we had learned on the real machines. We got to experience an in-depth complex lesson which fuelled our excitement for other aspects of chemistry and prompted us to ask about university life at the Russell group member University College London (UCL).  We found it really useful and we hope to implement our new knowledge into our chemistry lessons, to further research it,  and discover more exciting opportunities like this.

NabeehaI  really enjoyed the chemistry workshop today on spectroscopy. I found out exactly how we have to name the bonds present in a mass spectrometer and also what methods you have to abide by to obtain results. The results are all based on accuracy, you have to be precise with the measurements. Today was really useful as it helped me understand the properties of many compounds and why they behave the way they do. The lovely guest speakers were amazing, they really explained the concept well and I hope we can see them again.
