Message from the Head Girl

Head Girl Afsana Ghani

Copthall believes in academic success but also in instilling our school values into students, in order to bring out every student’s potential and ensure understanding of the value of education.

Having attended this school for 7 years, Copthall has played a big part in my life and has made me the person I am today, which has allowed me to become a role model for the younger years and exemplify the school values: Respect, Equality for all, Support and safety, Responsibility and Aspiration.

As Head Girl, I aim to ensure that the prefect team are always available to support other students and be fully involved in the school as a whole, so that students feel they have a platform they can connect on and can voice their opinions. One key example of where this has been successful was organising prefect volunteers for the Library Book fair. This was a very fulfilling duty as I got to see sixth formers interacting with younger years whilst carrying out their role as a prefect, which I believe has definitely helped introduce our younger students to the prefects. I hope to encourage self-empowerment amongst Copthall students so that they feel ready when taking on any opportunities or challenges that may arise in the future. These can be through programmes that are available in our school such as the STEM programme, ORT Jump, Career Ready, Oxbridge, Franklin Scholars and Student Senate. I hope to encourage our whole school community to take full part in these fantastic opportunities and achieve their aspirations.

The Sixth Form at Copthall has definitely supported me and my peers through our journey with UCAS and personal statements, such as offering support with our personal statements such as work experience and volunteering. The one-to-one support that is available at Copthall, especially with the Careers Adviser, has definitely allowed me to feel more confident with my choices and comfortable with my decisions.

I hope to be able to utilise my responsibility as Head Girl effectively and work alongside the Student Leadership Team in placing student ideas forward to further develop a positive learning environment. I personally do not believe that being Head Girl is about you as a leader but about striving to bring out the leadership in all of you.

Your Head Girl 2020-2021
