Year 12 & 13 EPQ Trip to London School of Economics 

On 21st September the year 13 EPQ students were joined by others from year 12 and 13 for a trip with a dual purpose – to see a top university at work and hear about what it had to offer, as well as the opportunity to do a research workshop based on its archive, very relevant to the research aspect of the EPQ. 

The day began with an introductory talk by Nazia Taznin, LSE Student Recruitment and Events Officer, which explained the admissions process, the courses on offer and the entry requirements. Following this there was a tour of the campus led by two current students. Of course we didn’t get to see absolutely everything and it was really crowded due to being Fresher’s Week, but the LSE students gave our girls a really good idea of the institution from an insiders’ perspective.  

After lunch in Lincoln’s Inn Fields we returned for the workshop, which examined a range of materials from the vast archive in the LSE library. Chelsea Collinson, Learning and Participation Programmes Officer, guided us through a fascinating session examining a range of papers and artefacts, from a selection of early Green Party magazines, a collection of photographs relating to the Women’s Suffrage struggle, and notebooks from Booth’s 19th century study of poverty in London. 

All in all a really enjoyable and stimulating day in which our students made a great impression, asking relevant questions and contributing well to discussion.
