Maria Winters 1Dear families, we are excited to introduce a community newsletter with useful information for our families. This will be available on our website in Arabic, Dari, Persian, Pashto, Urdu and Punjabi. Please feedback your suggestions to https://www.copthallschool.org.uk/6/contact

It is with great pleasure and a sense of privilege being the Headteacher at Copthall School.

This is a wonderful and exceptionally successful girls’ comprehensive school that aims to provide all our students with the very best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education. Copthall School is a popular school with a rich and respected history. Staff and students are on a learning journey together, continuously striving for excellence and to be the best that we can be.

Our mission statement, ‘Excellent Education for All’ and our five values (Responsibility, Respect, Aspiration, Equality for All, and Support and Safety) underpin everything we do to ensure all our students leave us confident, ambitious and determined to be the very best they can be. Our school ensures that each student in our care reaches their full potential academically, and, in addition, develops a broad set of skills that will enable them to be successful, happy, healthy and thrive socially, emotionally and physically in our ever-changing world.

It will not take you long to recognise and appreciate that Copthall School is a warm, hardworking and inclusive community, striving for excellence in everything we do. We are renowned for our strong pastoral care and our focus on student mental health, wellbeing and inclusivity which is woven throughout our pastoral programme and sits at the heart of our school development plan, as does our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

We are a caring community and foster the highest levels of empathy and respect for all members of our community. We require high standards of behaviour at all times as we know that good behaviour is essential for effective learning to take place. We are also committed to the belief that parents are crucial partners and we will keep you regularly informed of your child’s progress.

I very much look forward to meeting you all in the coming weeks and months and hope that you will share in celebrating your child’s numerous successes during their time at our school.

Some helpful reminders…

Report Absence

Report an absence by:

This form can be used for any absence, however for leave of absence or medical appointments during term time the outcome of your request will be confirmed by email.

It is understood that unavoidable illness can result in students needing to be away from school and families must inform school and provide medical evidence as appropriate.

Medical Appointments

If your child has a medical appointment please advise the attendance officer five days in advance of the appointment bringing evidence of the appointment along with a letter stating collection and return to school information. All appointments where possible, should be made outside of school hours or in the holiday period. Emergency appointments will be authorised with supporting evidence.

Families of students who are absent in the days prior to or after any school holiday will be required to provide medical evidence to authorise their daughter’s absence (as proof they are not on holiday). If no sufficient evidence is provided, the absence will be marked as unauthorised holiday and a Fixed Penalty Notice will be issued.

ParentPay

A reminder to top up your ParentPay balance please to clear any debt as we remain a cashless school.  This is particularly important before the summer break.  As always, ParentPay is the only way to pay.  If you need assistance with your ParentPay account, please contact your child’s Director of Learning or email enquiries@copthall.barnet.sch.uk

including your child’s full name, year and form class with your query.

Free School Meals

We understand that changes of circumstances or employment do occur: families who believe they may be eligible are strongly encouraged to apply for Free School Meals by completing the form on our website: www.copthallschool.org.uk/255/free-school-meals. Copthall receives funding for each eligible pupil so this makes a real difference to us all.

Contact Details

As always, it is essential we have your accurate address, mobile telephone and email addresses for at least two family contacts for important communications so if your details have changed recently please email your child's Director of Learning or email enquiries@copthall.barnet.sch.uk including the student’s full name year and form class.
