Our Department Vision
To develop our ability to see the connection between our personal, private experiences and the broader historical, cultural, and structural forces of society.
At Copthall School, the Sociology department aims to inspire students to question, analyse and understand the society they live in. We encourage students to think critically about key social issues such as families, education, crime, media and wider social inequalities to help them develop a deeper understanding of the world they live in. In Sociology, we strive towards creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment where students feel confident expressing their views, challenging assumptions and exploring different perspectives.

Our Curriculum is designed to promote curiosity, independent thinking and confidence, while developing strong informative, analytical and evaluative writing skills that support students’ success at both GCSE and A-Level.
