Why choose to study Health and Social Care?                     

This course provides the knowledge and skills for those wishing to work in the vocational areas of Care, Social Care and Health. The course uses a combination of assessment styles to enable you to apply your knowledge to succeed in the workplace – and have the study skills to continue learning on higher education courses and throughout your career.

Course outline: The course is equivalent in size to two A levels. It covers a range of subjects including human life, meeting individual needs, public health working in the healthcare sector. You will also have an opportunity to study skills in communication, numeracy and literacy, and IT, and there will be specific units to enable you to acquire study skills for university. There will be an option to complete 100 hours of work experience in a field that interests you.

Grade D or above in English and Maths

Desirable student qualifications/abilities:

Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science

Higher education opportunities:

BTEC level 3 Nationals are accepted widely by Universities. The course is worth double the number of UCAS points as and A level and a double distinction star is equivalent to two A* A levels.

Career opportunities:

This course is an ideal choice if you want to pursue a career in nursing, midwifery, health promotion, occupational therapy or as a carer. You can also use this qualification to go straight into employment.

Essential Field Trips involving financial commitment: You have the option to undertake 100 hours of work experience in your chosen care sector.
