Iftar hosted by Wonders of the World

Posted on: 27/03/2024

We are a team called Wonders Of the World (Alisha, Aaliyah, Ayisha, Baseera and Isabelle) who are supporting the charity Wings of Hope that provides free education for children in Chennai and Malawi.

Through our fundraisers, our aim is to support the education of less fortunate children, to inspire, empower and help them fulfil their aspirations. Some of our previous events include a Staff Afternoon Tea and a Sweets Jar competition.

On the 20th of March, we hosted a community Iftar for students, families and staff, dedicated to experiencing Ramadan together and appreciating the diversity and inclusivity in Copthall. We raised £400 which will all be donated to charity.

During the evening, there were speeches, a presentation by Alina and Inaaya (yr 8) and an exciting Islamic quiz by Nadera and Madina (Year 12). Staff and students bought food dishes to share and it was a fantastic opportunity to learn about each other's cultures. Mr Qureshi led a very peaceful prayer. Ramadan is a time of compassion and care which we felt during this Iftar. Thank you to Mrs Brice, the Headteacher from Hasmonean Girls School for attending. Overall, it was a beautiful event and we thank all those who supported us and attended.
