Why choose to study Healthcare, Care and Childcare? There are no other College‐based qualifications within this suite at this Level.

Course outline:

This qualification covers the basic skills, knowledge and understanding needed to work in Healthcare, Care or Childcare settings. The qualification content covers:

  • Working in healthcare and care
  • Working with babies, children, young people and families in care and education
  • Values, beliefs and behaviours for working in healthcare, care and childcare settings
  • Communicating for effective practice in healthcare, care and childcare
  • Working safely in healthcare, care and childcare environments
  • Safeguarding and protecting vulnerable individuals
  • Supporting health and healthy living in healthcare, care and childcare
  • Principles and theories of human growth and development
  • Developing resilience for working in healthcare, care and childcare

The work experience really gives you the opportunity to put the skills you would have gained into practice and handle real workplace situations. You will get lots of practice and support to enable you to develop the required skills and knowledge to prepare you for the learning and end assessment.

The course covers a range of topics including:

  1. Working in healthcare and care
  2. Working with babies, children, young people and families in care and education
  3. Values, beliefs and behaviours for working in healthcare, care and childcare settings 
  4. Communicating for effective practice in healthcare, care and childcare
  5. Working safely in healthcare, care and childcare environments
  6. Safeguarding and protecting vulnerable individuals
  7. Supporting health and healthy living in healthcare, care and childcare
  8. Principles and theories of human growth and development
  9. Developing resilience for working in healthcare, care and childcare

Assessment:

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:

  • One externally set, externally moderated assignment
  • One externally set, externally marked test, sat under examination conditions
  • Completion of 4 work placement booklets

Essential student qualification/abilities:

an important element of the course is you will be required to complete 120‐150 hours work experience. The school will support you in finding an employer who will provide this work experience. Alongside the course students may also retake G.C.S. E’s in Maths and English providing they have Ds.

4.3-4.7 average point score i.e. mainly C &D grades:

It is essential to enjoy spending time with small children and young people.

Higher education opportunities:

On completion you may decide to move on to further learning, for instance onto one of the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Technical Diploma for Early Years and Childcare 
  • Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Health and Care  
  • Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Health and Care 
  • Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma for the Early Years Practices (Early Years Educator)
