Copthall School is looking to appoint an energetic and passionate Curriculum Leader of Drama to join the school’s small but thriving Performing Arts Team. The Performing Arts team at Copthall consists of Drama, Music and Dance specialists and we are looking for a Drama specialist to take responsibility as the subject lead with the support of the Curriculum Leader of Performing Arts.  

Drama is a popular subject at Copthall, attracting students of all abilities to study the Edexcel GCSE specification. The school is committed to supporting the subject to grow and develop both in the classroom and through the school’s wider enrichment offer.

Drama is currently taught at Key Stage 3 and 4, however in the near future we are keen to re-establish the subject at KS5 either as an A level or as part of a vocational Performing Arts qualification.

The successful candidate will be a well-qualified and highly motivated Drama specialist who is a strong team player and whose passion for Drama and the performing arts will inspire and engage our students. As a school we strive to deliver and broad and diverse curriculum and we welcome teachers who can boast a far-reaching knowledge of different theatrical styles and conventions that will inspire our students. The successful applicant will work closely with the Music and Dance department.

There is also a potential leadership of the Performing Arts Faculty responsibility with commensurate TLR. This will involve leading and overseeing a dedicated team of staff and ensuring the excellent teaching of Dance, Drama and Music throughout Key stages 3-5. Candidates wishing to be considered for a Faculty leadership responsibility are encouraged to express this in their personal statement, outlining relevant experience.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • An ability to deliver consistently high quality of teaching, learning and assessment across Key Stages 3, 4 and possibly 5
  • A proven track record or the potential to secure excellent student outcomes in Drama GCSE examinations
  • A commitment to championing our students to ensure that regardless of their starting point, they are able to make excellent progress
  • A commitment to developing curriculum and enrichment activities within the Drama department and Performing Arts team
  • Will raise the profile of Drama across the school and the wider community
