Alan Senitt Upstanders Leadership Programme

Posted on: 17/05/2022

The Year 10 Copthall Alan Senitt team leading the project My Mindful Journey has been working with great enthusiasm throughout this term to fulfil the purpose of their project.  The students have attended several seminars organised by Stand Up! Education Against Discrimination in which they had the opportunity to receive training on community leadership, team building, and event management. In addition to building skills, the students have developed their knowledge on anti-discrimination topics concerning antisemitism, anti-Muslim hate, LGBTQ+ discrimination, anti-disability prejudice and racism.

The aim of the project My Mindful Journey is to support disadvantaged, young people in the community by providing better mental health resources through the creation of mindfulness packs which will include mindfulness journals, mindful colouring, stress- relief toys as well as stationery. The team has already started building partnerships with organisations within the community and is looking forward to a successful partnership with UNITAS.

To create the packs the team has been carrying out a number of fundraising initiatives during this term including hosting an afternoon tea for the Governors, a mindfulness ring making session in partnership with Copthall Empowerment Club and most recently a bake sale. If you would like to support their cause you can donate directly to the team’s Go Fund Me Page below.

Alisha J., Leader of Copthall Alan Senitt Team-My Mindful Journey

The Alan Senitt Upstanders Leadership Programme is a unique programme through which we are empowered to tackle discrimination through our social responsibility. It has been a stimulating experience where we have had the opportunity to develop our marketing skills and presentation skills. Through each seminar, we have gained confidence meaning we have been able to share our project with school governors, organisations and execute creative fundraising ideas alongside our Go Fund Me page. We thoroughly appreciate the support of the project coordinators working with us as they have encouraged us and made the programme extremely enjoyable.
